Go the Extra Mile

HR Success Guide
Author: Antony Xavier

“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I can't do a certain thing It is possible that I may end up by really incapable of doing it. On the contrary, If I have the believe that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even If I may not have it at the beginning" Mahatma Gandhi

Every dream we want to achieve requires lots of commitment, tests and patience to make it a reality, it also requires the person to take ownership and responsibility and perform to the best of their ability by going beyond their capability the Extra Mile. Near enough was not good enough, It took 10000 times for Sir Thomas Alva Edison to create the prototypes of his failed electric bulb before succeeding. Some of the greatest inventions or the craftsman who built monuments or famous personalities believed that no other human would ever see some of their greatest work. It was quite simply out of sight yet they completed with perfection because they got involved deeply and committed to give their best.

One of the differences between the ordinary people and the super achievers is that the super achievers simply dream big and go the Extra mile that nobody would have dream about. Speaking to the nation President Kennedy said on May 25th 1961 "Fly man to the Moon in this decade". But could it be really done? Was the question everybody was asking since the concept of manned flight was only 3 years old? On 20th July 1969 it became a reality Neil Armstrong landed on the moon and he said "That is one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind".

We can do better every single day in whatever we do if we really care in what we do sincerely and take pride in our job and in ourselves, sure one day we get noticed, we get praised, we get honored and we also grow with the organization we work for.

How to take the first step to reach your goal, think about what you can do, think how u can improve, set yourself target and stretch your ability to make it happen each and every day, Set aside time every day to visualize every one of your goal as already accomplished, think as if you are the winner, this is one of the most important thing you do to make your dreams come true. Every day we come across many people who are doing the same task but only few are remembered for what they are now it’s simply because they were challenging themselves to go beyond "The Extra Mile".

In times of competition people push themselves to go beyond their acceptable levels to achieve success and be better than others by overcoming obstacles. It lies with each one of us to understand and overcome these obstacles to excellence.

Some of the few obstacles one comes across and needs to break it are:

 I don't have time.
I don't have the skill to do it.
 I am not yet ready
 I can do it tomorrow
 I have failed before
 I am not worth it.
 I can’t try
 I am afraid

Remember Success doesn't come over night, one step at a time and step by step you will improve in whatever profession you may be and whatever situation you are in, you will gain the pride in what you do and be yourself this all happen only when you decide to go the extra mile.
History speaks about many personalities who went that "Extra Mile" to achieve for what they are as a successful Sportsman, Politician, Social Worker, Scientist, Architect, Industrialists, Actors and Worker etc. I am confident that you can also achieve.

I am sure everybody knows about LIONEL MESSI here is something you should know one among few people who overcome failures and went that Extra Mile to become a great sportsman: At age 11 he was cut from his team after being diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, which made him smaller in stature than most kids in his age and today he is 3 time FIFA World player of the year.

Believe strongly in yourself and go beyond the limitations - Arnold Schwarzenegger.
